In Alloue, Cultivating Life with Patience
Before becoming a farm manager, Anne-Christine was a schoolteacher. Yet orchards had always held a special place in her life — first the one from her childhood, then the orchard at Les Granges de Port Royal des Champs, where she discovered fruit tree cultivation. It was a revelation that led her to train professionally: a vocational agricultural diploma specializing in arboriculture, along with further training in agroforestry and fruit and vegetable processing.
For five years, she searched for the ideal place to bring her project to life. In 2021, following a true coup de cœur, she settled in Alloue with her family. Les Vergers de Beauchêne could finally take root.
Here, farming is carried out without chemical treatments. The soil is nourished with wood chips, hay, forest litter, and manure generously provided by neighboring livestock farmers. The old orchard gathers apple, pear, plum, peach, and walnut trees. Alongside it, a second orchard planted upon her arrival now hosts raspberries, blackcurrants, redcurrants, and mulberries. Around ten beehives contribute to this living balance.
The fruit is processed on-site, cooked in a copper cauldron: jams, jellies, marmalades, chutneys, fruit pastes… Organic citrus fruits and mangoes come from farms committed to the same respectful approach.
Actively involved in the CIVAM of Charente-Limousine and a GIEE (Economic and Environmental Interest Group), Anne-Christine contributes to a collective dynamic centered on local, sustainable, and living agriculture.
